What made you decide you wanted/needed to start an exercise program?

I had previously been living in London where daily life had been keeping me fairly fit (I used to basically rush around everywhere!) Then I moved back to Yorkshire and had to re-establish my life. I sorted the job, the house, friends and boyfriend but getting into a fitness routine didn’t really happen. I was eating and drinking out more, not really cooking at home and my friend that used to motivate me to go to the gym was no longer around. This mean I was wasting gym memberships, gradually buying bigger clothes and feeling less happy with the way I looked. A year ago I decided it was time to put some effort back into my health and fitness and make myself feel good again. I’d decided to look for some personal training … Diligent Fitness popped up on Google and I booked a meeting with Kieran.

What results have you achieved since starting your program?

Since I started the program I have lost over a stone and a half in weight and gone down from a size 12-14 to a size 10. I have grown in confidence both in the way I look and in other ways too. I now enjoy cooking things from scratch (I was terrified of cooking before in case it went wrong!) and I decided to start running as my New Year resolution. Initially I just want to be able to run 5k but I surprised myself and soon moved it to 10k. I have now entered the Leeds 10k in July which is something I would never have dreamed of doing a year ago.*

What are you doing differently now to before you decided on your goal?

I now have lots of routines in place. I introduced the small steps of the daily habits in the Learn to be Lean Programmes and keep up to them. I now plan healthy meals and make sure I organise my gym classes to fit around my week. I now look forward to doing exercise and enjoy cooking. As a result, I have lost weight and got fitter without it being a hassle or getting in the way of my busy work and social life!*

What do you like best about our program/having a trainer?

I like having someone on your side who wants you to do well and achieve your goals. I also like being pushed out of my comfort zone and doing things at the gym I would have been too nervous to try had it been at another gym. I also like booking the sessions in advance, knowing that someone is expecting you to turn up makes you motivated and look forward to exercise sessions.

Nicola always arrives to her sessions with a positive mindset, she always pushes herself towards her goals and beyond what she thinks she is capable of. The gym is never quiet when she is training which makes it an enjoyable experience for everyone that is training at the same time

What would you say to someone on the fence about joining our program?

You should definitely join, even if you don’t have a big end goal in mind. The friendly and supportive atmosphere really helps people who are a bit nervous about gyms and exercise to achieve goals and see results without feeling like they have had to completely change their life!
