Choosing A New Gym in Bramley Leeds near Rodley

Choosing a Gym, Bramley Leeds

Looking for a gym? Bramley in Leeds has a few different types to choose from, here’s how to pick the right one for you…

Starting anything new can be daunting and with most gyms requiring a 12 month commitment you want to make sure you choose the right one. There are the standard gyms where you join, go through an induction session, maybe get an initial programme and then you’re left to your own devices to get on with it.

After the first induction session…

For most of us this is where the problems begin; if you’re new to the gym environment then you’re probably feeling self-conscious in front of the fitness trainer and feel like everyone is watching you. On top of that you’re being introduced to equipment with control panels that wouldn’t look out of place on a space shuttle and you’re worried about remembering what buttons to press in what order. Next you’ve got to venture into the free-weights area with the muscle-guys and remember exercises you’ve never seen before and just feel plain ridiculous when you’re doing them.

Default to running on a treadmill

The end result is that you have information overload and end up defaulting to running on a treadmill. That’s fine for a bit but it’s deathly boring, you don’t see any positive changes in your body but you do begin notice the aches, pains and niggles starting with your knees and back and perhaps worse get injured and that’s you done with the gym. Even worse still, nobody seems to even notice or care that they haven’t seen you there for six weeks.

Personal training – expensive and intense

Another option is to hire a personal trainer who can give you undivided attention and guide you through your workout each time you go to the gym. That solves the knowing what and how to do exercises plus having the confidence to do it, but what about the expense and the fact that someone is standing right next to you for an hour watching everything you’re doing – it can be a bit uncomfortable and if you were feeling self-conscious before…

If you could design your own gym…

If you could design your own gym what would it be like? Would you want somewhere you can go and be welcomed by name each time. That’s not overcrowded with gym bunnies, not stuffed full of space age equipment and where the music isn’t playing at a deafening volume. It would always be clean and tidy, the other members would be like you – friendly, smiling and chatting with each other. You’d feel comfortable and at home there.

You’d have a programme card to follow each time you go – appropriate to your fitness levels and goals – and someone would be with you to guide you through it and teach you the moves. You want to see results in return for your hard work so the programme would be regularly reviewed to keep you moving towards your goal. After your workout someone would book you in for your next session – just to give you the motivation to turn up!
