If you run your own business (or are a busy professional) chances are you don’t have a great deal of time for yourself. That means fitness often gets put on the back burner.
Until there’s a problem.
Perhaps the doc’s flagged you with high blood pressure. Maybe a close friend had a health scare. Maybe the aches and pains are making you feel older than your years. Or perhaps you’re getting fed up with the gradual weight gain that’s been sneaking on over the years.
In any case, if you’ve decided to get on top of your health and fitness – but have an incredibly busy schedule – here’s one thing I recommend that will significantly increase your chances of success;
As a personal trainer there’s one thing I’ve noticed over the years. Morning training sessions get cancelled less often than evening sessions.
Now, I could be speculating here, but I’d guess there are times when you’re at the mercy of your business, clients or boss. And that means if stuff comes up during the work day then everything else gets put off. Including your workout.
Not to mention that, by the end of a day, you’re just not going to have that much energy or enthusiasm for training. Making the idea of skipping a workout all the more appealing.
So if you’ve tried training in the evenings in the past and struggled to make it happen here’s the key; switch it up to early mornings (we’re talking like 6 or 7am).
You’re probably thinking that early starts are not for you. That I need to get real, and it’ll never work. And maybe you’re right.
But here’s what I want you to do;
Try it anyway. See what happens.
Worst case you’ll get a couple of early morning workouts and be a little tired towards the end of the day.
But isn’t that what was happening anyway? Except without the benefits of the workout.
Not only will your training sessions be more likely to happen, you’ll have;
So while there are long-term benefits of getting your workouts in early, you’ll get some nice perks in the meantime.
And to be honest, I don’t think you’ll start flagging towards the end of the day.
I know this because I’ve seen it with hundreds of personal training clients over the years. Plus I’ve just completed the first 3 months of the year doing exactly what I’m recommending here – training before the gym opens at 6am.
If you’ve been struggling to make time for exercise – for one day – set the alarm for 1 hour earlier than usual.
Get up, out and do a workout first thing.
Doesn’t matter what you do right now. The key is just committing to it and getting started.
