Lucy, what do you get from working out – why do you do it?

Obviously everyone feels good after a work out but I also feel like I have achieved something knowing that I have got to the gym and worked out on the days I set out to do so. It’s a big confidence boost for me as I haven’t achieved that before. The work outs also de-stress me after a day at work and if I go on a Friday or Saturday it really sets me up for the weekend.

How do you stay motivated to keep coming?

I know if I go to the gym I feel really good and that’s a big incentive! Plus every time I go to the gym I feel like I’m doing something positive and taking another step closer to my goals.

What do you like about coming to the Diligent Fitness studio over perhaps going to another gym?

I like the people at the gym. Everyone is very friendly, and I feel like the instructors take a genuine interest in your development and helping you achieve your goals.

At other gyms I have felt slightly intimidated and nervous about trying out a new machine in case I embarrassed myself but I like that at this gym you are guided through all the exercises on your programme and that there is always someone on hand to ask questions or show you the exercise again and again if needed! Having a new programme every month also keeps things varied and you don’t get bored, especially if you also go to a class. I also like booking in for the sessions you want to attend in advance, I think it helps me keep up with the number if workouts I want to achieve in a week.

What advice would you give to someone thinking about getting going with a fitness programme?

I would say definitely give it a go. It’s still early days for me but this gym experience has been completely different to anything I have done before. I have never done these types of work outs before but it’s surprising how quickly you pick things up, and increase the weights! I don’t dread going like I have with other gyms and I’m actually becoming more interested in developing my fitness and pushing myself further than I have before.
