When you’re weeks away from a holiday and need to get in shape, like now

Okay we all know we should be working on fitness for life. But sometimes we mess up. And didn’t.

But now your body is about to be thrust into the limelight because you’ve got a holiday coming up in a matter of weeks and – if want to enjoy the break rather than feeling self conscious the whole time – you need to get in shape fast.

So, with that in mind here’s the 3 ‘Big Rocks’ to focus on that’ll have the biggest impact on how you look and feel over the coming weeks

1. Keep a food diary

This is still the fastest and most effective method for putting your body on the fast track to fat loss. Why? because 1) It makes you pay attention to what you’re eating and drinking… making you think twice about that second serving. It’s amazing how you self-moderate when you have to track everything you eat and drink.

And 2) Having a record of what you’ve done makes it crystal clear where you’re going right, and where you’re going wrong. A quick glimpse through makes it easy for you (or better still, someone with nutritional expertise) to troubleshoot and steer things in the right direction.

2. Focus on resistance training

Any exercise will be better than nothing. But if you’re short on time resistance training – with weights – gives you by far the best return on time invested.

Done the right way, resistance training shapes and tones your body while elevating your metabolism – helping you burn more calories even at rest.

If you have more than 2-3 days per week for exercise then start adding in cardio (like running or interval type exercise).

3. Get accountable

There’s nothing like daily or even weekly accountability to help you stay focused and on track. Over the coming weeks before your holiday your commitment will get tested. There will be times you don’t feel like filling in your food diary or doing your workout. But having someone on your side, helping you work though it is possibly one of the single biggest success factors you can have going for you.

So, if you haven’t already, hire a personal trainer or a nutrition expert to coach you AND hold you accountable. Even a friend that’s keen on fitness may be able to help. But we’ve found the more someone invests, the more committed they are and the better results they get.

So, if it’s important, invest what you can in achieving your goals.

Summary

When you’re weeks away from your holiday and you’re looking for a few quick wins to get in better shape start by keeping a food diary, doing resistance training and having someone to check in with that’s committed to holding you accountable.

These three things alone will give you the best head start in looking and feeling great in time for your holiday
